Thou Shall Not Bear False Witness.

Exodus 20:16 says, “Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.” I think in this case the words; “false witness” refers to telling a lie. A lie is defined as something that is said that has not been proven to be true. In today’s society people love to repeat, repost, re-tweet, and reiterate information that sounds good, but may or may not be true.

It seems that everybody wants to be the first to tell the story even if the story has not been verified. Maybe that’s because we are living in a “microwave” society which means we want things to happen quick, fast and in a hurry.

We don’t have time to wait for all the facts; therefore, truth goes out the window. We use to have a mantra that a person is innocent until proven guilty, but it is just the opposite now; we are guilty because someone has made the charge.

It is incumbent upon the individual who is being accused to defend themselves against any and all allegations, even if those allegations have no basis in fact. It appears the more outlandish the charge the more it is believed and spread.

People today don’t seem to care how many lives are affected by the lies and half-true’s they tell as long as they receive viral status. It only becomes a problem when the violator becomes the violated. Then and only then are they really able to understand the hurt and pain of another.

I am not saying people don’t deserve to be believed, but people don’t deserve to be persecuted without proof or facts either. There are times when people are being totally honest, but they are not telling the truth. Waiting on the facts might take a little longer, but isn’t the truth worth it? Just take a little time and think about it.
