The mass shooting at the school in Parkland, Florida really grieved my heart as I am sure it did the same to others around the world.  But, I often wonder why we are so surprised when we hear about school shootings and mass killings throughout the Country?  It seems like almost every week there is some horrible act of violence being perpetrated by human beings on other human beings that makes no sense to us.  However, if we think about it very carefully, it becomes easy to understand how and why these things keep happening even though we say we want them to stop.  I have come to the conclusion that as long as we continue to accept violent and deviant behavior as the norm things will continue to happen as they have always happened.  As long as we are willing to keep profit as our main motivation for everything we do, our society will continue to disintegrate.  As long as we accept and allow injustice to happen to some and not to others, unrest will flourish and remain.  As long as people continue to believe their attitude and behavior has no impact on others, we won’t ever have the society we all claim we want.  There is no perfect society, but a society that cares about all of its members will work to make it better for everyone; not just the few.  I don’t necessarily believe in utopia; although I do believe in Heaven. However, I know we will do a lot better if we take the “I” out of “We” and start thinking about “US”.  Then and only then will we be able to make a difference.  What say you?
